The Clerk
I looked around the dim, red-lit room. The steel door was magnetically sealed. The blast glass was rated for high-caliber rounds. But systems have power sources.
I dragged myself toward the heavy server rack humming against the far wall. The main power conduit ran from the floor into the back of the servers, sheathed in thick rubber.
My hands shook, my vision swam, but I pulled the combat knife from my vest.
I didn’t try to hack the door. I bypassed the system entirely.
I drove the titanium blade straight into the high-voltage conduit.
A shower of blue sparks erupted, throwing me backward. The shockwave rattled my teeth; ozone and burning rubber filled the air. The servers died. The red lights flickered and went black.
