The Command That Never Ends
Chapter 17 — Headquarters
At 1400 hours I walked into the main conference room at Langford headquarters in downtown Charlotte.
Preston, Vivienne, and Damien sat at a long mahogany table with four expensive defense attorneys, comfortable, relaxed, certain of their immunity.
At the far end sat Major Rourke, his face white as paper, already flanked by two Military Police officers.
Vivienne looked up, and her eyes narrowed as she registered the federal agents filling the corridor behind me.
I had brought Rourke with me on purpose, and I had placed him where they would see him first.
