The Crate in the Parking Lot
Emil,
I’m not going to apologize in this letter.
I’ve written four versions with an apology in them and they were all about me, and you’d have read four pages of a woman trying to feel better and had to do something with it.
You’ve had enough jobs.
So this is a different thing.
This is the facts, because I think you’ve only had half of them and I’ve only had half of yours, and Willa has been carrying both halves around since she was twelve, which neither of us should have let happen.
Then there is about a page that is her account of 2010 and 2013, and it does not differ from mine in any material way, which I found harder than if it had.
