I slid the diamond ring from my finger and set it on the altar, on top of the transfer document neither of us had signed.
Then I turned to face the guests.
“Please enjoy the reception,” I said.
“Everything’s already been paid for.”
“Saoirse,” Konstantin warned, the smile gone now.
I walked down the aisle alone, and no one moved to stop me, because no one in that cathedral yet understood what was happening — least of all the man I was leaving at the altar.
