What if I started hiding Owen’s history because I wanted to spare him grief?

Dana sat beside me on the floor, where Owen had scattered wooden blocks.

‘Then you make a plan to tell him the truth in pieces he can understand,’ she said.

‘You don’t have to tell an infant about lawsuits.

You just don’t build his life on a story you know is false.’

I wrote that down.

Owen would know where he came from.

He would know that adults sometimes fail each other and that those failures are never a child’s responsibility.
