The recordings she was waving in the air to save herself would, within the week, become the spine of the fraud case against him — she was, in her panic, handing the prosecutors the very evidence that would finish him, and she was too frightened to see it.
The two of them had spent a year believing they were each other’s weapon.
Watching them turn in the same instant and fire, I understood I had barely needed to do anything at all.
