My finger stopped at a name.

Arthur Cole, Attorney at Law.

I set the manila envelope on Arthur Cole’s desk before I took my coat off.

He didn’t reach for it.

He looked at the metal clasp, then at me, then adjusted his wire-rimmed glasses by the bridge.

“You opened it,” he said.

“Gary opened it for me.”

Arthur slid a finger under the clasp.
