Chapter 22 — Even Now, Your Pride

Arthur tried to call Julian that afternoon.

Julian answered, and put him on speakerphone, and I stood beside him and listened.

“Julian!

Thank God you picked up,” Arthur’s voice boomed out, still, incredibly, in the register of a man expecting to be sided with.

“Your wife is turning an unfortunate household misunderstanding into a public spectacle.

You need to rein her in before this gets out of hand.”

Julian’s face did not change.
