Delia clutched her worthless paper.

“This is my home!” she shouted. “You can’t remove me from my home!”

Cyrus opened a leather folder. “This property belongs to Yates Real Estate Holdings,” he said.

“You’ve lived here because your husband’s employer allowed it. That permission is withdrawn.”

“My husband is an addict!” Delia tried, wild now. “He begged me to lock him down there so he couldn’t hurt himself!”

“Then you can explain to the prosecutor,” I said quietly, “why there’s a recording of your voice offering to keep going until his hand learned to cooperate.”
