Two hours and twenty minutes.

Nathan tried to leave twice.

The first time he said he needed to get his daughter out of the building, which was not unreasonable, and an officer said he’d escort him and Nathan said never mind.

The second time he walked toward the side exit by the flower room and two uniformed officers were standing in it.

Michael took him into the small family room off the chapel and talked to him for twenty minutes, which was not an interview and which Nathan agreed to, and Margaret has always believed that those twenty minutes are why he was charged, because at that point Nathan Brooks still believed he could manage it.

He gave three explanations for the bruising in twenty minutes.
