Rachel Ademola had worked at the same architecture firm as Emily for nine years and had sat eleven feet from her for four of them.

She contacted the police herself, in the third week, after the local news ran forty seconds about an arrest that had not yet happened.

She called the non-emergency line and said she had information and was passed around for two days before she reached anybody who took her seriously, which she has described publicly since, and which the department has never disputed.

What she had was an email.
