I did not cry on the drive.

I want to record that, because I had cried many times over these people, in these four years, and that night, for the first time, the tears did not come.

In their place was something clearer and colder and far more useful: a decision, forming itself, growing more certain with every mile I put between myself and that table.

By the time I reached my own front door, the decision was complete.
