Standing at the door were two formal representatives from a debt-recovery firm, accompanied by a process server, holding official legal documentation regarding several major personal loans that Theresa insisted she had never taken out.
One of the representatives placed a dossier on the coffee table.
“Mrs.
Theresa Ramirez,” he said, “we need you to verify these signed credit agreements.” Theresa flipped through the pages, and her face went from confused to ghost-white.
There were high-interest loans totaling nearly eighty thousand dollars.
