The Fine Print
Not the four hundred and twenty thousand dollars, though I got that back.
It was the five years I spent believing a man who told me I was broken.
You can recover money.
Courts are built for it; I have the recovered figures in a file to prove it can be done.
But there is no court that can give back the five years I spent small, five years of believing that the deepest thing about me was a failure, five years of apologizing with my whole self for a defect I did not have.
That is what the foundation is really for, underneath the legal aid and the financial counseling.
