“Nothing.” I crouched down so we were eye to eye.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”

He shrugged.

“We’re probably leaving tomorrow.”

I looked past him to Kelsey in the hallway.

“Not if I have anything to say about it.”

Her expression warned me not to make promises to children I couldn’t keep.
