Vanessa’s gaze snapped toward him. “They’re outside.”

The dining room door opened. Dana entered with two detectives. Vanessa stood, but she did not run. Detective Marcus Lowe approached the table. “Vanessa Hale, we have a warrant to search your belongings and the premises.”

Vanessa’s expression recovered. “You should begin with Nora Bennett’s room.”

Graham felt dread settle in his stomach. Detective Lowe watched her carefully. “Why?”

“Because that’s where you’ll find the bottle.”

Nora appeared in the hallway behind Dana, holding Lily’s hand. “What bottle?” Nora whispered.
