Here is what actually happened, which I put together in the winter of this year from two conversations and a set of records.

It stopped because it moved.

The group that had been doing it found somebody else in the autumn of 2013 — a boy two years below — and the thing I have had to accept is that Julian knew that at the time, and knew who, and did not say anything, and has carried it since.

He told me about it in my kitchen in the December of this year and he could not look at me while he did it.
