The House in the Photographs
The first two are outdoors and could be anywhere.
The third one is a kitchen.
There is a woman sitting on a counter with her legs crossed at the ankle and a man standing in front of her with his hands on either side of her, and they are laughing at something off-camera, and behind them there is an island with a waterfall edge in a grey-veined quartz, and above it three pendant lights in a brushed brass finish, and to the left of the frame the corner of a window with a particular kind of muntin, and on the sill of that window a small terracotta pot with a dead succulent in it.
I killed that succulent in the spring of 2022.
I never threw it out because I kept meaning to try again.
That is my kitchen.
