Part Twenty-Nine: Raymond Carver

The man who wrote the sentence is named Raymond Carver and he was, for nine years, Dupont Enterprise Group’s senior vice president for government relations, which is a title that in a company of that size means one person with a laptop and a very good address book.

He is sixty-three.

He spent twenty-two years as a civilian in a federal contracting shop and retired as a branch chief, and then did what a great many people do, which is cross the street and sell what he knows to the people he used to buy from.

There is nothing wrong with that.

It is legal, it is common, it is, on the whole, useful.
