“So what now?” he spat, his real self finally bare. “You’re going to send your own dying son to prison? Let me rot in here?”
“No,” I said calmly. Helena laid a single crisp document on the table.
“This is a legally binding Irrevocable Medical Trust,” I explained. “I’ve funded it with exactly enough to cover your legitimate hospital bills, your doctors, and a mandatory psychiatric evaluation. The hospital gets paid directly. The pharmacy gets paid directly.”
I leaned in, inches from his face, forcing him to look at me.
“But you will never see a penny of cash,” I whispered. “You will not get my house. You will not get another loan in my name. You’re on your own for the ninety thousand dollars you owe those creditors.”
“And if you ever try to contact me, or Paige, for money again, Helena hands that blue folder to the District Attorney, and you go to federal prison.”
