The Ledger I Finally Cleared
It was lightness.
For the first time in my adult life my phone was not ringing with someone else’s crisis, and no one was owed anything, and the long red column of everything I had given to people who would never give it back had finally, at last, been zeroed out.
The ledger was clear.
I was not a bank.
I was a daughter, walking her father into the sunlight, and I was free.
