Elena’s eyes filled. “I needed you to see it.”

“I see it now.”

Margaret tapped her cane against the floor. “Seeing isn’t enough. Decide what changes.”

Daniel nodded. “We’re done attending family events where my wife and daughter are treated like guests who should be grateful for scraps.”

“And the trust?” Elena asked quietly.

Margaret looked out the window. “The trust was never about rewarding you for being kind to me. It was about protecting what’s left of this family from people who mistook inheritance for achievement.”
