Daniel read it and smiled faintly. “That’ll cause a storm.”

Elena pressed send. “Then they should bring an umbrella.”

Chapter 7 — The Library at Newport

The storm came fast. Richard claimed Daniel was controlled by his wife. Vanessa accused Elena of punishing them out of insecurity. One cousin suggested Margaret had been manipulated because of her age.

Margaret answered by inviting every adult in the family to a formal meeting at her estate in Newport, Rhode Island. Elena didn’t want to go. Daniel insisted they go together.
