Margaret pointed to the head of the children’s table. “Mia will sit there.”
“That’s Parker’s seat,” Sloane protested.
Margaret looked at her. “Then Parker can learn generosity on his birthday.”
Parker had stayed silent, frosting smeared across his chin. Without arguing, he climbed down from the chair. He looked embarrassed, though Elena couldn’t tell whether he regretted what had happened or just disliked being stared at.
Mia didn’t move. Elena crouched beside her. “You don’t have to stay, baby. We can go.”
Mia looked at the dinosaur puzzle on her lap. “I want him to open it.”
