The ancient DNA methods that allowed the mitochondrial sequence to be recovered and compared have become more powerful, capable of recovering complete or near-complete nuclear genomes from samples as degraded as the Kwäday Dän Ts’ìnchi materials.

The analysis of stomach contents has benefited from improved environmental DNA methods that can identify organisms from minute traces of biological material.

In principle, some of these improvements in method could allow additional analysis of material from the Kwäday Dän Ts’ìnchi project that could deepen the scientific findings.

A complete nuclear genome — rather than just the mitochondrial sequence — would provide far more information about ancestry, population affinity, and biological characteristics.

Improved isotope analysis could refine the picture of dietary and geographic history.
