The glaciers are still retreating.

The ice is still releasing, year by year, what it has held — organic material from the long human history of a landscape that Indigenous peoples have never not known as home.

Kwäday Dän Ts’ìnchi was one such release.

He was a person, preserved by ice, returned by a warming world to the community that could recognize him and receive him and honor him and grieve him across the centuries between his death and theirs.

The glacier does not care about any of this.
