The first thing I teach is that you do not lift a person.
You give them something to come up against, and you let them do the work, because that is what preserves them.
I have a whole hour on that, with a chair, and by the end of it a twenty-two-year-old who has been on the job nine days can get a frightened adult off a floor without hurting either of them.
The second thing I teach is fifteen minutes long and it is the part I actually built the class around, and it goes like this.
