You cannot carry forty or fifty percent of an adult’s weight on an offered forearm.

What you can do, which is what we actually did, is considerably more interesting.
The problem was not weight.
It was three things.
The first was the initiation of gait.
Her left leg had an unreliable hip flexor and an unreliable quadriceps because of the nerve involvement, and what that produced was not a limp — it produced a hesitation at the start, a half-second where the leg did not go, and then a compensatory lurch.
