The Man on Her Left
We had done about forty minutes and she was in the chair with her eyes shut and her hands flat on the arms, which is what she did instead of making a noise, and she said, without opening her eyes:
“You want to ask me something.”
I said, “Not really, ma’am.”
“You’ve wanted to ask me since Tuesday.
Ask it.”
So I said: “Why not just tell them?”
And Vivienne Bramhall opened her eyes and gave me an answer that took about six minutes and that I could not answer then and have only partially answered since.
She said: “Because I know exactly what happens.
