Others have been more uncertain, acknowledging that the passage of nearly 150 years and the disruptions of the intervening period — the displacement, the boarding school era, the various government policies that disrupted cultural transmission — may have created genuine gaps in what is known.

Some descendants and community members have actively participated in efforts to locate the burial, whether out of a desire to know or to ensure that the site is protected.

Others have expressed the view that the mystery should remain a mystery — that looking for the burial site with the intent of publicly identifying it is itself an inappropriate act, regardless of who is doing it.

These different perspectives within the community are not a contradiction.
