If GPR examination of Geronimo’s grave showed intact, undisturbed soil consistent with a single original burial and no subsequent disturbance, that would be significant evidence that the grave was not robbed in 1918.

It would not be definitive proof — GPR has limitations and cannot detect everything — but it would provide valuable information.

If GPR examination showed evidence of disturbance — soil inconsistencies consistent with a secondary excavation and refilling — that would be consistent with the grave-robbery account, though it could not prove the robbery occurred or identify what was removed.

Non-invasive examination of this kind would require the cooperation of Fort Sill and the consultation of Apache communities, as any examination of the grave should.

But it would not require excavation or direct handling of the remains, which would be more invasive and more culturally complicated.
