The specific account of Skull and Bones members digging up Geronimo’s grave emerged from a document prepared by the society itself in 1933, for the centennial celebration of Skull and Bones.

The “Continuation of the History of Our Order for the Century Celebration” reportedly described the theft.

The account names specific individuals who were allegedly involved: Prescott Bush, Henry Neil Mallon, and Ellery James, all of whom were stationed at Fort Sill in 1918 as part of Army artillery training during World War I.

According to this account, Bush and his companions dug up what they believed to be Geronimo’s grave at Fort Sill in May 1918 — nine years after Geronimo’s death — and removed the skull, some bones, and personal items.

These remains were allegedly taken back to Yale and installed in the Tomb.
