If Skull and Bones, or any other party, were to allow DNA extraction from the skull or other remains alleged to be Geronimo’s, that material could be compared to DNA from known descendants.

If the remains are Geronimo’s, the comparison would show a match with what geneticists call matrilineal or patrilineal ancestry markers.

If they are not Geronimo’s, the comparison would show no match — but might still identify whose remains they are, if the DNA could be compared to a broader database of Apache genetic profiles.

The technology to do this accurately exists.

The willingness of descendants to participate in the testing has been stated publicly.
