The Name on the Building
Don’t tell Alistair.
“To you,” he said, “my little boy was a problem to be hidden.”
“Alistair, listen to me.” She reached for his childhood name. “I did all of it for the family.”
“Never call me that again.”
The next morning he called an emergency meeting of the hospital board. He brought the bank records, the notes, the real logbook. Katie walked in smiling, certain her son had summoned them to help her bury the whole thing.
Then Alistair turned on the screen, and the first image was Sawyer’s school photo.
