Thorpe still did not appear in the official results of the 1912 Games.

Ferdinand Bie was still listed as the pentathlon gold medalist.

Hugo Wieslander was still listed as the decathlon gold medalist.

The scores that Thorpe had achieved, the world record in the decathlon that would stand until 1948, were not in the books.

The campaign to change that belonged, in its later stages, primarily to Grace Thorpe, Jim’s daughter, and to Robert Wheeler, a scholar who had written a biography of Thorpe and who had spent years researching the procedural history of the 1913 disqualification.

It was Wheeler who discovered what proved to be the decisive piece of evidence: that the Swedish Olympic Committee’s rules for the 1912 Games had established a protest deadline of three months after the events, and that the complaint against Thorpe had arrived months after that deadline.
