Understanding their contribution accurately means neither minimizing it nor inflating it into something it was not.

What can be said with confidence is that the speed and security of Navajo Code Talker communications at Iwo Jima, as throughout the Pacific campaign, gave Marine commanders a communications capability that their opponents could not compromise and that their own alternative systems could not have replicated.

That was genuinely valuable in ways that are hard to quantify but easy to understand in context.
