The central character can be the place itself.

Capachequi existed before the Spanish.

It experienced the Spanish.

It survived after the Spanish left.

It remained beneath later landscapes.

And it has now returned to historical attention.

De Soto becomes one chapter in its history rather than the entire story.

That is a more balanced way to present Indigenous archaeology.
