Her lips trembled. “I was so stupid. I really thought Lewis loved me.”
Robert’s hand curled into a fist against his knee. “Did he ever ask about the penthouse directly?”
She swallowed. “At first, no. Then he started joking that married people share everything, that his mother worried I didn’t trust him.”
“Did he pressure you to sign?”
“The week before the wedding. He said his mother would feel disrespected if I kept my property separate.”
Robert looked at me, and I nodded. “I told her not to sign. She refused.”
