I lost four friendships in that period.

Two of them were couples who had been ours and became his, which is ordinary and which I do not resent.

One was a woman I had known since 2015 who told me, over coffee, that she “wasn’t taking sides” and then spent forty minutes explaining Christopher’s perspective to me.

And one was a man I had worked with for nine years who called me on a Sunday to tell me that going to the board had been “a bit much” and that I could have handled it privately.
