Kai looked straight at the detective.
“She lives on Elm Street in South Austin.
Dario drove me there in March and told me, ‘Get used to this place, kid.
You might be staying here a while soon.'” For the first time, Dario went silent, and the smooth composure on his face developed a hairline crack.
I had lived with that man for two years, and I had never once seen the thing that showed through the crack.
