Chapter 20 — The One Who Hadn’t Stopped Looking

Sometimes, now, people ask me how an eight-year-old girl managed to see what an entire room full of adults completely missed.

How a child noticed what a doctor, and a funeral home, and a dozen grieving grown-ups, and a signed and official death certificate, all failed to notice, that the man in the casket was still alive.

The answer is simple, though it still haunts me, because of what it says about the rest of us.
