The Passenger in Seat 8A
Holding him now in a cabin full of people who had just not died, she felt the crouch let go.
Loving him was not the exposure.
Loving him was the whole reason any of it was worth surviving, the thing that had gotten her out of seat 8A and up that aisle when caution would have kept her safe and useless.
She had been protecting her heart by not using it.
She was done with that.
She pressed her face into her son’s hair and let herself, for the first time in a year and a half, simply love someone without bracing for the cost.
