The Real One
“That’s what I’m trying to find out.”
Denise studied me — my wedding ring, my coat, my face. “You’re Mrs. Pierce,” she said.
“The real one, apparently.”
Her eyes dropped. Before she could respond, a door opened farther down the corridor.
Chapter 3 — The Stairwell
Nathan emerged from Conference Room B in his white coat, silver hair perfectly arranged, his expression controlled. Hospital counsel, Gregory Hale, walked beside him, along with two board members I recognized from charity dinners.
