“Good.” He almost smiled.
“I’ll do the investigating.
I’m quite good at it and I’ve got warrants and you haven’t.”
I broke that rule once, ten days later, and it is the only thing in this entire account I would take back.
Part Eight: Nineteen Days
I do not know how to write about the nineteen days.
I have tried four times, in four different settings, and the thing I always end up saying is the thing nobody believes, which is that they were boring.
They were the most ordinary nineteen days of my adult life.
