She peeled the foil halfway off the pudding and stopped. “He looked at me funny.”
My heart tightened. “He wasn’t feeling well.”
“No. Not sick funny.” She lowered her voice. “Surprised funny.”
Mrs. Harris sensed the tension and stood. “I should check the lab printer,” she announced, though the printer was directly beside her.
When she was gone, I crouched next to Ava. “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
“I know.” Her confidence nearly made me smile.
