The Shardana, the Shekelesh, the Denyen, the Tjeker, the Teresh, and the Weshesh remain genetically uncharacterized in any direct way.

The proposed identifications of these groups — with Sardinia, Sicily, Homer’s Danaoi, the Etruscans, and others — remain speculative.

The genetic evidence either does not exist (because no ancient DNA has been recovered from sites associated with these groups) or does not clearly confirm the proposed identifications.

What the science has also not established is the relative contribution of the Sea Peoples versus other factors to the Bronze Age Collapse.

The genetic data shows that populations moved; it does not tell us whether those population movements were the cause of the destruction seen at various sites or the consequence of other forces that were already causing destruction.
