Egyptian texts show the Peleset being settled in Canaan after the battles of Ramesses III, and later Egyptian texts show them as a people inhabiting the southern Levantine coast.

They appear to be identical with the Philistines of the Hebrew Bible — a people about whom we have substantial later documentation, and who left archaeological traces in the form of distinctive material culture at sites like Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, Gath, and Gaza.

The Shardana (or Sherden) have been connected to Sardinia — the island whose Bronze Age culture, the Nuragic civilization, produced distinctive bronze warrior figurines and tower complexes that some researchers see as connected to the Shardana.

The Shekelesh have been connected to Sicily (in Greek, Sikelia).
