The connection between the Shardana and Sardinia has been proposed since the nineteenth century, based on the similar sound of the names.

The Nuragic civilization of Sardinia — which built the distinctive stone towers (nuraghi) that still dot the Sardinian landscape — was a sophisticated Bronze Age culture with its own traditions in metalwork, architecture, and apparently in sea-based activity.

Bronze figurines from Nuragic Sardinia show warriors with distinctive equipment, including the horned helmets that may appear in some depictions of the Shardana in Egyptian reliefs.

However, the Shardana-Sardinia connection has been challenged on multiple grounds.
