Part Seven: The Drive Home
It is twenty-six minutes from that lot to our house and I got three things right and one thing wrong.
The three things right were these.
I did not ask her a single question about the room for the first eleven minutes.
I put the radio on, at her station, and I let her talk about the gel pens, which she did, at length, because they had a metallic gold one.
I did not say one word about her grandmother or her grandfather or her mother.
