My child had been carrying, for nineteen months, a sentence that said if you tell, Mommy will get in trouble and it’ll be your fault, and she had just told, and she was asking me directly whether the terrible thing had now happened, and I said everything’s fine.
And within about six weeks, everything visibly was not fine.
Her mother moved out.
Her grandmother was gone from the cottage.
There were lawyers in the house and a man came and took the computer out of my office and there were two evenings where I could not keep my voice steady.
